When the first ever Acura TL was released in 1998 it had only one optional extra on the sedan car, and that was a hard drive-based navigation system without true-GPS. The maps were stored in 5 different zones covering the United States.
When the Acura TL 2000 model rolled off the factory floor it had some changes to the 1999 version, which now included a DVD-based GPS device, rather than hard-drive. This meant that updating the Acura GPS maps was now possible by purchasing a TL Navi Disc.
By the time the third-generation of Acura TL came out in 2003 the TL Navigation System had progressed to even accept voice commands – so the driver could speak their destination and get taken there via the quickest or shortest route possible.
